C.D Leganés and A.S Saint-Étienne have closed the loan of 24-year old right back Sergi Palencia. The defender who was formed at F.C Barcelona’s academy has European competitions experience and was part of Spanish U-21 national team.
Born in Badalona, he started to be part of the culé’s academy in the alevin category and made it through all of them. He was UEFA Youth League champion in 2014. He made his debut in the 2014/15 season with the second team in Segunda División, he was “juvenil” by then. He scored eleven matches and scored one goal, precisely against Leganés at Mini Estadi.
European experience with Girondins and Saint-Étienne
He continued playing with F.C Barcelona 'B' where he reached the promotion to the silver category in 2017 and 31 games in the 2017/18 season. His good performances and projection took him to play on loan at F.C Girondins Bordeaux where he played 31 official games there and also had appearances in Europa League.
Palencia was transferred to Saint-Étienne from Ligue 1 where he played again European competitions. Palencia made his debut with Spanish U-21 national team in 2018 playing two matches with the national team. The right back arrives at Butarque to continue with his growth and help C.D Leganés to achieve their objectives.
