As if it was today… nineteen years ago Leganés won against Córdoba at Butarque (4-0) and secured survival in Segunda Division for another season. Puñal in two occasions, Barbarín and Merino scored the goals for the pepineros.

Leganés was looking after the survival for next season in second division. The club was just two points above the relegation zone with just three matchdays remaining. The visitors did not have many stakes at risk on that moment of the season. Enrique Martín’s team needed a win to secure the team participation in the competition for the next year after losing at Calderón stadium a week before.

Leganés initial squad was: Raúl Arribas, Álex, Julián Ronda, Macanás, Lambea, Merino, Puñal, Fede Marín, José Mari, Miguel Ángel and Barbarín. Pardo replaced Lambea after ten minutes played qhile Morales and Miguel played during the second half.

Puñal scored for Lega on the first minute of the game, Barbarín increased the lead just before half time. Merino and Puñal again scored the last two goals during second half. It was a 4-0 in favor of the white and blues who were virtually saved for next season.
