As if it was today… three years ago Leganés won against Real Betis at Butarque (4-0). This is the biggest margin that the team have had on a first division match. Szymanowski (2), El Zhar and Gabriel scored the goals to put the team one point away from survival with two matchdays remaining.

Three matchdays remained for the end of 2016/17 season and Leganés had to face Betis at Butarque. The white and blues were close to seal the survival for next season being three points away from relegation spots.

Asier Garitano’s initial squad was: Iago Herrerín, Tito, Insua, Siovas, Diego Rico, Rubén Pérez, Timor, El Zhar, Gabriel, Szymanowski, and Guerrero. Bueno and Luciano played on second half. Leganés started the match with all its power and in the 6th minute of the match got a penalty kick after a handball by one of Betis’s defenders. Szymanowski scored the first for the pepineros. Some minutes after that El Zhar managed to get to the rival’s area and beat Adán to set up the second goal. 2-0 with 15 minutes played.

Gabriel Pires scored one of the best Lega’s goal on first division. He stole the ball on the middle of the pitch and pinched the ball from a 45 meters distance range. Szymanowski scored the last goal of the match after a run and a right-foot definition.

It was a memorable night for Leganés. The team was now one point away to seal the survival for next season.
