Borja Jiménez: “It hurts us how the defeat was, but we have to move forward”

The coach of C.D. Leganés, Borja Jiménez, held a press conference this Sunday after the match that the team played against Real Betis at the Estadio Municipal Butarque, corresponding to the twenty-eighth round of LALIGA EA SPORTS, which ended with a 2-3 defeat for the team.

The coach expressed the bittersweet feeling with which the team left: “I think we had merit to win. We had the game under control with a 2-0 lead and everything happened to us. In the end we ended up losing and we are relegated. It hurts us, but it is not the most painful. We already experienced tough defeats last season and before. What bothers us is how it happens, but that's the way it is sometimes.”

The coach defended Marko after his performance: “He has given us a lot in many games. Today he didn't have a good day, but there's nothing to reproach him for. He's upset and he's taking his share of the blame”.

Despite the blow, Borja highlighted the team's performance: “We've come from two games where we haven't scored and opportunities like today's can't be missed. Right now we are annoyed, because we were counting on getting three points and we are left with that empty feeling”.

Regarding Dani, the coach explained his decision: “We did it in Valencia, we did it in Bilbao. He is a great player and has been lucky enough to score two goals. We know he is an incredible player. We probably don't value any of this now, but in time we will”.

Finally, the coach also spoke about the mental burden the team is bearing: “The team is playing very well and we are leaving with 0 points. We can't let a single one go by. We have been mentally exhausting for two weeks now. Today we had the game very much under control and it got away from us”.
