C.D. Leganés reached an agreement on Thursday with Peruvian international midfielder Renato Fabrizio Tapia Cortijo, 29, to join the Pepinero club for the next two seasons.
Tapia is a midfielder with extensive experience in our league and in European football, as well as at international level. At just eighteen years of age, he made the leap to Europe with Dutch side Twente, with whom he competed between 2013 and 2015. In January 2016 he signed for Feyenoord, establishing himself in the Eredivisie, making his debut in European competitions and winning the league title in the 2016/17 season.
The following year he won the Dutch Cup and Super Cup with the Rotterdam outfit, and made his first Champions League appearances. After a few months' break at Willem II, Tapia remained at Feyenoord until the end of the 2019/20 season, when he embarked on a new professional stage and headed for LALIGA.
Four years in LALIGA and extensive international experience
With R.C. Celta Vigo, Tapia has spent the last four seasons in the Primera División. In his first season in Spain, he was one of the revelations of the championship, standing out for his deployment in midfield, strength and criteria when distributing the game. He remained at Balaídos until this last season, playing a total of 120 official games for Celta.
At international level, Tapia has been capped no less than 85 times by Peru, and is in the top 20 all-time players with the most appearances for the Peruvian national team. He made his debut in 2015, and since then has participated in competitions such as the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2016, 2019, in which he reached the final, and 2021 Copa América.
The new Pepinero player signs for the next two seasons and will start training this Thursday under the orders of Borja Jiménez. He will wear the number ‘5’ and the date of his presentation will be announced soon.
