C.D. Leganés and Turkish club Trabzonspor have reached an agreement for the transfer of 32 year old Croatian international left back Borna Barisic until the end of the season. The Balkan defender, who has a long career in Europe, completes the left side of Leganes' backline for the remainder of the season.
Barisic came up through the ranks at Osijek in his native Osijek, where he remained from 2013 to 2018, with a stint between Dinamo Zagreb and NK Lokomotiva. His qualities caught the attention of several European clubs, with Glasgow Rangers being the team that acquired his services in the summer of 2018. With the Scots he has developed most of his career, playing six seasons, 236 official matches in which he scored ten goals and giving up to 54 assists, and winning three titles.
Barisic accumulates more than eighty games of experience in European competitions between Champions League, Europa League and Conference League. One of them was the final of the Europa League in 2022, in which Rangers lost to Eintracht Frankfurt in the penalty shootout. After leaving Scotland last summer, he has played the first part of the season at Turkish club Trabzonspor, taking part in fifteen official matches.
At national team level, Barisic has been 35 times a senior international with Croatia, playing, among other competitions, Euro 2020, the Qatar 2022 World Cup, in which he took third place, and the final phase of the 2023 Nations League, reaching the semifinals. The new pepinero footballer now arrives at Butarque to start a new professional adventure in LALIGA. His arrival will take place this week, while the administrative formalities for his registration will be completed. Welcome to the Pepinera family!
