C.D. Leganés and the City Council have reached an agreement for the concession of the Estadio Municipal Butarque for the next fifty years. After long and intense negotiations, both parties have reached an understanding that provides legal certainty to the Leganés team, as well as several considerations in favor of the city, among which the construction of a sports center in the neighborhood of Leganés Norte stands out.
Both entities announced the agreement at a joint press conference held at the town hall. The concession agreement comes after many months of dialogue and crystallizes in an agreement that not only guarantees the growth of the Blue and Whites, but also leaves a significant legacy for the city of Leganés.
The most tangible example of this is the construction of a 5.7 million euro sports center in the neighborhood of Leganés Norte, a facility that the club will operate and put at the service of all citizens, thus meeting a historical contract that the club had committed to execute.
In addition to the sports center, and to further strengthen this city agreement, C.D. Leganés has also committed to:
- Allocate a fixed number of social tickets that the City Council will distribute at all League matches.
- Provide advertising to the city both in the stadium and in the Anexo Jesús Polo.
- Open the door of the Estadio Municipal Butarque to hold an annual tournament that contributes to continue positioning Leganés on the map of national sporting activity.
- To invest a minimum amount of money in the stadium over the next four years, so that it can be modernized and brought up to the standards that all our fans and the city deserves.
The president of C.D. Leganés, Jeff Luhnow, was very proud to have been able to reach such a beneficial agreement for the city and the club: “Today we celebrate an achievement that will mark the destiny of C.D. Leganés and Leganés as a city. Butarque is and will be our home, and we want it to continue to be a proud, united and ambitious symbol. With this concession, we look to the future with enthusiasm, knowing that together, club, fans and administration, we continue to build a success story,” he said.
For his part, the mayor of Leganés, Miguel Ángel Recuenco, wanted to emphasize that “it is a historic agreement that comes after many months of intense work. A work carried out by two institutions, C.D. Leganés and Leganés City Council, and by two great teams. These are areas that are in charge of different councilors who, in addition, are from the two political parties in the government. We have been able to work as a team for the common good of the city”. Finally, he pointed out that “after so many years of waiting and uncertainty, this government, working as a team with enthusiasm, passion and effort, has brought to fruition the objective of moving forward with the concession. Now we have to keep dreaming... And working hard”.
Meanwhile, the first deputy mayor and councilman of Works and Heritage, Carlos Delgado, said: “This agreement is undoubtedly a historic and very beneficial for the club, for the City of Leganés and ultimately for the city. The process has been long and there has been a lot of work and effort behind it. I have to thank and recognize the involvement of the areas of Sports, Public Safety and, especially, Heritage and Works without whose tenacity this fact would not have been achieved. It is also fair to recognize the willingness of the club to reach this agreement”.
Given that the final terms of this concession have been changing over the last few months, C.D. Leganés will be working in the coming weeks to adjust the plans for the various improvements to be made to the stadium. In this way, the first phase of these reforms will be communicated in detail in the coming months, which must also count on the collaboration of the City Council to speed up the procedures and grant the relevant licenses to be able to carry them out in a timely manner.
